Each change in life brings a design challenge. How am I to be, amidst new truths and new people?
Design is the obverse of doing. Being expert inside a process does not convey the ability to design it from the outside. This throws us.
In a new role, a new country, a new relationship or new phase of life, there are four aspects of living that call to us. You will be naturally good at designing one of them – and you probably take it for granted.
Purpose as poetry.
Being present; crafting presence.
Commitment as a path.
Weaving strands of knowledge.
This approach to design brings mind, body, soul and heart together. You have the skills already. They are innate:
- To explore like an infant (so that you bump into new things)
- To relish chaos (because that’s where you’ll find the hidden pattern)
- To risk it (knowing just enough to head in a good enough direction)
This is how you design the essence of life.
